Story
Hi friends and family!
Mark & our good friend Daniel Westby are taking part in the Sunshine Coast Marathon and fundraising for Ronald McDonald House SEQ who supported us when our 5 year old daughter Elke was in intensive care with Septic Cardiogenic Shock.
Ronald McDonald house supports families with critically ill and injured children so they can be close whilst their lives are in crisis. We want to give back what they gave to us. We want to keep the circle of kindness going. It does not stop at us.
Elke got really sick really quick. On a Saturday in April Elke was out shopping at Kmart, happy and healthy buying a toy bird she had non stop talked about. On Sunday evening she was in an induced coma. What we thought was a vomiting bug turned into our worst nightmare. We were transferred down from the Sunshine Coast to Queensland Children’s Hospital. The pain we endured whilst not knowing her outcome was excruciating. Ronald McDonald house supported us whilst we were in crisis and we want to give back to where it came from!

We understand that making a donation is not always possible with the rising cost of living so a share of this page would be very much appreciated!

To all the doctors, nurses, physios, speech pathologists, dieticians, teachers, & hospital workers who work so incredibly hard yet don’t expect any praise in return THANK YOU! You are all Legends! We need you!

Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland (RMHC SEQ) helps families stay together in the midst of physical, emotional and financial stress. Our Ronald McDonald Houses in Herston, South Brisbane and the Queensland Children’s Hospital, provide a homely and inviting place to stay for parents, guardians, carers and siblings while their child is undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital. Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, located in the Gold Coast University Hospital and the Queensland Children’s Hospital, are welcoming spaces any family with a child going through treatment in these hospitals can take time out from the clinical environment of the wards, have a tea or coffee or find a quiet space for a much-needed nap.
